Yanks Re-Acquire Vazquez

The Yankees acquired Javier Vazquez yesterday from Atlanta in exchange for Melky Cabrera. Other players/prospects were involved, but these are the key components. The last time Vazquez pitched in pinstripes was in Game 7 of the infamous 2004 ALCS against Boston, giving up home runs to his now teammate Johnny Damon (although he may not be his teammate for long). After the acquisition of Curtis Granderson, Melky became somewhat expendable, as they now have a 5-tool player in center. The move pushes the Yanks payroll to more than $200 million. Vazquez, with a 15-10 record, ranked second in the National League last season with 238 strikeouts and sixth in ERA at 2.87.
