NFL Week 9 Sunday Wrap Up

Photobucket

It was a wild Week 9 in the NFL yesterday which featured some upsets, some division matchups and Peyton Manning looking like a human being.

Tampa Bay Bucs-21
Atlanta Falcons-27

In a battle for NFC South supremacy, the Falcons remain stout at home taking down the upstart Buccaneers. Michael Turner rushed for 2 scores and the defense stuffed LeGarrette Blount on 4th and 1 from the 2-yard line to seal the victory.

Chicago Bears-22
Buffalo Bills-19

In Toronto, the Bears made enough plays to keep the Bills winless. You gotta hand it to the Bills, they play hard unlike the Cowboys, but they keep finding ways to lose games in the 4th quarter. Jay Cutler was able to remain upright enough to throw 2 TDs and Steve Johnson had 11 catches for 145 yards for Buffalo.

New England Patriots-14
Cleveland Browns-34

In probably the biggest shocker of the day, the Colt McCoy-led Browns take down Tom Brady and the Pats in blowout fashion. Peyton Hillis was the star of the game, rushing for 184 yards and 2 TDs, further proving that the trade the Browns made for him which sent Brady Quinn to Denver may have been the best trade this year.

New York Jets-23
Detroit Lions-20 (OT)

Megatron was stuck on Revis Island. One catch for 13 yards is not the type of production the Lions wanted from their star receiver, but they still had a chance to win this game, up by 10 points at one point. Matthew Stafford re-injured his shoulder and will have an MRI today. The Jets get a big road win after being shut out last week.

Arizona Cardinals-24
Minnesota Vikings-27 (OT)

The Cardinals had no business losing this game. They were up 14 with 5 minutes left in the game and then the good Brett Favre came out. Favre led 2 TD drives in the final minutes and Ryan Longwell sealed the deal in overtime with a field goal. The game may have temporarily saved coach Brad Childress' season, however the Vikings will need a lot more Brett Favre heroics if they want to make any noise this year.

New Orleans Saints-34
Carolina Panthers-3

The Panthers offense is the worst I've seen in years. Jonathan Stewart got knocked out in the first quarter and the passing game is completely non-existent. The Saints rolled from beginning to end.

Miami Dolphins-10
Baltimore Ravens-26

In a game marred by Chad Henne mistakes, the Ravens hulking defense forced him into multiple turnovers and he missed wide open guys all game. Ray Rice and Willis McGahee got involved in the passing game and the Ravens handed the Dolphins their first road loss of the year.

San Diego Chargers-29
Houston Texans-23

Philip Rivers and his band of no-name receivers put on a passing clinic in Houston. Rivers threw for another 4 TDs, 2 to a guy named Ajirotutu. The Texans continue their collapse from their impressive start. Arian Foster was the lone bright spot for the Texans, accumulating 197 total yards and 2 TDs.

New York Giants-41
Seattle Seahawks-7

The Giants had no problem traveling cross country and manhandling the Seahawks. This was a massacre from start to finish. Eli Manning had another impressive outing throwing for 290 yards and 3 TDs and Hakeem Nicks continued his strong season with 128 yards and a TD.

Kansas City Chiefs-20
Oakland Raiders-23

In a surprising matchup of AFC West leaders, the Raiders got the win, in their first home sell-out in 12 games. The Raiders got great production from rookie Jacoby Ford who had 148 receiving yards and ran a kickoff back for a TD. Nice win for the Raiders who were playing without Zach Miller and Nnamdi Asomugha.

Indianapolis Colts-24
Philadelphia Eagles-26

The Eagles overcame 14 penalties to take down the Colts at the Linc on Sunday. The Eagles D did a good job of disguising coverage against Peyton Manning who threw 2 interceptions to Asante Samuel. The Colts were unable to get the ball downfield, dumping it off to TE Jacob Tamme 11 times for 108 yards and a TD. In Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson's first game back from their respective injuries, they picked up right where they left off. D-Jack had over 100 yards and a TD and Vick had 2 TDs and added 74 rushing yards to his 218 passing yards. The Eagles travel to Washington next week on for a revenge game against McNabb and the Redskins on Monday Night Football.

Dallas Cowboys-7
Green Bay Packers-45

The Cowboys have apparently waved the white flag on their season. They came out completely uninspired on both sides of the ball, with the Packers dominating from beginning to end. Aaron Rodgers threw for 2 TDs and the stifling Packers D swarmed the Dallas offense and scored 2 TDs of their own. The Cowboys travel to New York next week to face the Giants and the only question remaining is whether or not Wade Phillips will still be coaching this time next week
