NFL Week 8 Sunday Wrap Up

Photobucket

This was a great week to show the parity in the NFL this season. We saw teams that we expected so much of (Dallas and Minnesota), fall even farther behind in their division, as well as see some surprise teams (Oakland, KC, St. Louis) continue to build on their solid starts.

Bye Weeks: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, NY Giants, Baltimore.

Miami Dolphins-22
Cincinnati Bengals-14

The Bengals fall to 2-5 on the season thanks to another lackluster effort from the offense that cannot seem to get in sync. Carson Palmer only threw for 156 yards and an INT late in the game just outside the red zone. TO added another 2 TD's this season and Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter was a perfect 5 for 5 on field goal attempts, including a long of 54 yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars-35
Dallas Cowboys-17

The Cowboys continued their downward spiral suffering a brutal loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. Jon Kitna threw 4 INTs in the loss, some of which were due to drops by his receivers. David Garrard was flawless with 4 TDs and a Mike Sims-Walker had a career high 153 yards in the victory. Dallas is off to a 1-6 start.

Washington Redskins-25
Detroit Lions-37

In Matthew Stafford's first game since getting hurt in Week 1, the passing game showed why many people thought this offense could be exciting going into this season. Stafford threw 4 TDs, 3 to Megatron. The Redskins offense was out of sync all day and Donovan McNabb was benched in favor of Rex Grossman with 3 minutes left, down 6 points (I can't believe I just wrote that). The Skins go into the bye with many questions and the Eagles coming in on Monday night in 2 weeks.

Buffalo Bills-10
Kansas City Chiefs-13

With time expiring, Ryan Succup hit the game winning field goal to give the Chiefs a 5-2 record to start the season. The Bills fall to 0-7 and there is really no light at the end of the tunnel. The Chiefs, however, continue to play inspired football, particularly on the defensive end. Jamaal Charles finished with over 200 total yards in the victory.

Carolina Panthers-10
St. Louis Rams-20

The Panthers continue their horrendous season with a brutal performance in St. Louis. The rushing attack never got started without DeAngelo Williams. The Rams defense forced 4 turnovers in the win. The Rams improve to 4-4 on the season thanks to a overachieving defense and a poised rookie quarterback.

Green Bay Packers-9
New York Jets-0

In a defensive struggle, the Packers got a huge win in New Meadowlands stadium. In a game where no one produced any noteworthy statistics, the only stats that mattered were the 3 turnovers that the Jets committed which ended up being the difference in this game.

Denver Broncos-16
San Francisco Giants-24

The 49ers got their 2nd win of the season across the pond in London's Wembley Stadium against the Broncos which seem to be in free-fall. Despite Kyle Orton's 369 passing yards and Brandon Lloyd's 169 receiving yards, the Broncos couldn't make enough plays and turned the ball over in timely situations. Frank Gore rushed for over 100 yards and Tim Tebow scored another goal line TD.

Tennessee Titans-25
San Diego Chargers-33

The Chargers got a much needed home win against a Tennessee team that was coming off an offensive explosion last week against the Eagles. The tandem of Rivers and Gates was too much for the Titans and Chris Johnson had another underwhelming effort of only 59 yards.

Seattle Seahawks-3
Oakland Raiders-33

The Raiders posted their second straight week of big numbers, this time at the expense of the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders climbed to a respectable 4-4 on the season thanks to a great defensive effort and a balanced offensive attack that had Jason Campbell throw for over 300 yards and Run-DMC rushing over 100 yards for the second straight week.

Minnesota Vikings-18
New England Patriots-28

In the most overhyped matchup of the day, the Patriots dissected the Vikings in typical Patriot fashion. Favre played with the bum ankle and wasn't terrible, but had to leave the game and get 8 stitches in his chin. Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis rushed for over 100 yards and 2 TDs to pace the Patriots offensive attack. Randy Moss only had 1 catch for 8 yards in his return to Foxboro.

Tampa Bay Bucs-38
Arizona Cardinals-35

The Bucs move up to a surprising 5-2 behind the legs of LeGarrette Blount and a couple interceptions by Aqib Talib. The Cardinals are still searching for a quarterback with both making crucial mistakes in key situations. Someone save Larry Fitzgerald who is stuck in the desert and can't get out.

Pittsburgh Steelers-10
New Orleans Saints-20

In front of a raucous Halloween crowd in the Superdome, the Saints got a much needed win against a tough Steelers team. Drew Brees bounced back from a couple bad outings with a 300 yard, 2 TD performance. The Saints improve to 5-3 and seem to be back in the hunt for the NFC South title.
